A free CRM with a very large product behind it

HubSpot’s free CRM is genuinely usable on its own — contacts, companies, deals, tasks and email tracking, with no seat limit. Everything else is sold as hubs around it: Marketing, Sales, Service, Content and Operations, each with its own tiers.

That shape is the thing to evaluate. Teams adopt HubSpot because the free tier costs nothing and the contact record is shared across every hub, and they are surprised later by what a marketing contact tier costs at scale. It is an excellent fit when marketing and sales genuinely work off the same database, and an expensive one when only the sales team ever logs in.

The hubs, briefly

  • Smart CRM

The shared record every hub writes to: contacts, companies, deals, tickets and activity.

  • Marketing Hub

Email, landing pages, forms, ads and lifecycle automation, priced by marketing contacts.

  • Sales Hub

Sequences, meeting links, quotes, forecasting and call recording, priced per seat.

  • Service Hub

Ticketing, a knowledge base, SLAs and customer surveys on the same contact timeline.

  • Content Hub

A hosted CMS with personalisation, so campaign pages live where the contact data is.

  • Operations Hub

Two-way data sync, programmable automation and deduplication across connected apps.

Frequently asked questions

Is the free CRM really free?

Yes, and without a seat limit. The limits are on features and volume rather than on users: reporting, automation, custom properties and email sending caps are what push a team onto a paid tier.

What actually drives the cost?

Two different meters. Sales and Service are priced per seat; Marketing is priced by the number of marketing contacts. A large mailing list can cost more than the sales team does.

Can European data stay in the EU?

HubSpot operates EU data hosting for accounts that select it. Confirm the region at signup — moving an existing portal between regions is not a setting.
